Raisons d'Etre

{My Weekend in Photos: October 26-28, 2012}

Friday (row 1): after work I intended to go to a dance show, but that didn’t work out. So, I went to Target instead, bought myself a storage shelf, and built my bar for my apartment. I rewarded myself with a glass of red wine, a nice dinner, and watching Girls Just Want to Have Fun.

Saturday (row 2 + 3): Early morning Homecoming Breakfast event at Northwestern, which resulted in getting free tickets to the game (woo!). And Northwestern beat Iowa, so that was a bonus. Laid low the rest of the afternoon warming up after the freezing game, catching up on TV (and I started watching Nashville - I’m addicted), drinking tea and knitting. Then it was my college roommate’s birthday in the city, so I got dressed up (as Where’s Waldo) and went to her birthday bar night. They had a crazy beer menu, including some new cider I had never tried - blackberry pear. It’s amazing.

Sunday (row 4): Impromptu brunch with my roommate from last year, and then some errands and relaxation. I made a delicious pumpkin lasagna for dinner and watched my Celine Dion Las Vegas DVD (all the behind the scenes fun stuff). I finally found the motivation to go to the building’s gym, which ended up being too humid and hot so I came back to my apartment and tried to remember choreography to Britney songs from the 90’s/00’s.

Overall, it was a fantastically lovely weekend :) It was so nice to actually stay at my apartment all weekend (rather than visiting my parents), and not have to deal with that stressful commute. It was the perfect blend of being social, but letting my introvert self have time alone. But, I do miss my cat and my puppy. I don’t know when my parents are bringing my cat back.

Generally speaking I had a very lovely weekend. I’m taking advantage of the last few hours of laziness, so I’m going to eat some ice cream, knit, read, and watch a few shows. I will post a lot of photos tomorrow.

{My Weekend in Photos: October 12-14, 2012}

  • A lovely fall bonfire back home with friends who are in town from Philly
  • A feisty cat that went on a crazy spree that resulted in her getting on top of the fridge
  • A lovely homemade Sunday brunch
  • My first ballet class in a very long time
  • Some homemade white bean and greens soup
  • Pumpkin ice cream on sale for $1.88

And I completed most of the things on my to-do list for today, so it was a successful weekend :)

Sunday To-Dos

  • Delicious homemade brunch
  • Read a case study for class
  • Massively clean my apartment (vacuum, mop, clean surfaces, change kitty litter)
  • Reorganize my closet/move out my summer things
  • Hang up the rest of my artwork for my walls
  • Play guitar
  • Finish reading for my classes this week
  • Outline my paper
  • Knit
  • Paint my nails
  • Watch Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close before it’s due back at the library
  • Make a large pot of soup for the week
  • Go grocery shopping
  • Take a ballet class and/or work out

How productive can I be? We’ll find out.

{My Weekend in Photos: September 29 & 30, 2012}

  • Coffee with my college roommate and then headed to see Perks of Being a Wallflower (so good! Except my favorite quote from the book wasn’t in it).
  • Then my parents brought up the kitty to come live with me (at least temporarily). She spent the first hour or so hiding under my bed, and then exploring, and then became super cuddly and attached to me.
  • Tried to get a little potential background thesis research done, and tried to drink an Irish coffee, but the cat spent too much time in my lap so I could really get anything done.
  • I barely got any sleep because she decided to wake me up every two hours by kissing my nose or crawling all over me. She doesn’t understand the concept of personal space. But that’s okay cuz she’s cute.
  • She crawled into my lap while I was trying to eat breakfast and answer emails. Then she got exhausted and passed out on my bed.
  • The leaves on the tree outside my window massively changed color overnight.
  • I helped out the theater I used to work at (Piven) for a huge performing arts event in Evanston. It’s nice to have the time to be able to get involved in the arts world again from time to time.

This Weekend

Here’s a quick rundown of what I will hopefully accomplish this final weekend of September:

  • Getting some grad school reading done
  • Making some sort of progress on my thesis topic
  • At home mani/pedi because it’s much needed
  • Thoroughly clean my apartment
  • Seeing Perks of Being a Wallflower with my college roommate
  • My parents bringing up the new cat to come live with me
  • Snugglefest with the new cat while she gets adjusted to my apartment
  • Finish hanging pictures in my apartment
  • Watch all of movies that I have from the library that are due back next week
  • Workout
  • Help out my old theater with a big community performing arts event this weekend

So much going on, but most of it is going to be lovely. Expect some photos.

{My Weekend In Photos: September 22 - 23, 2012}

  • The trees in my parents’ suburban town are starting to change color :) For whatever reason they’re about a week or two earlier than trees in the city. Maybe it has something to do with Lake Michigan.
  • The cat freaking out when she pressed on a piano key and it made noise. Hysterical.
  • Lots and lots of cuddling with their new kitty (which if all goes as planned, I may be stealing from them next weekend to let her try living with me in my apartment!
  • My poor puppy feeling depressed because everyone is obsessing over the cat, and she wants to be friends with the cat but everytime she goes near her the cat swats at her. It’s both equally funny and pathetic.
  • Finally replaced my broken iPhone 3G and got the 4S (which also means the return of instagram photos! Get ready for lots of fake artsy pictures.)

Aside from getting bitten by a cat at the shelter I went to yesterday (and subsequently freaking out about rabies for the past 24 hours, despite the shelter saying the cat they think bit me has had its shot), and almost passing out in Target from low blood sugar and getting what I thought was about to be another migraine, it was a lovely weekend.

In case anyone was wondering how I spent my Saturday afternoon off duty :) The Olympics were also on so I was watching that as well.

TGIF

This week has been crazy. I’m so happy it’s the weekend. My plan is as follows:

  • My roommate’s boyfriend’s orchestra concert tonight
  • Post-concert drinks/dinner with the rest of the orchestra (I hope there’s a cute, straight, single musician there to chat with)
  • Brunch with my roommate tomorrow
  • Jazz class in the afternoon (it’s been too long)
  • Maybe brunch again Sunday morning
  • Group project meeting Sunday evening for grad school

In between these events will be playing catch-up on TV I’ve missed this week (Dance Moms Miami, Grey’s Anatomy, Smash), reading a bit for fun (I’m falling way behind on my goal after starting the year off so strongly), some lesson planning for my summer job, and a ton of work for classes. I’m actually kind of happy the weather is going to suck over the weekend. It’ll be a good way to keep me focused. I do my best work on rainy days sometimes. Unless I get distracted by tea, wine, whiskey, and movies.

I can’t wait until I have time to sit down and read a magazine for fun.

simple sunday morning
