I guess I’m learning, little by little, that we decide what our lives are going to be. Things happen to us, but it is our reactions that matter.

Yes. This describes my summer plans in a nutshell

The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.

I still have 5 years left, but have done most of these things. Score?

A new thing for my blog

It’s about to be May, and I’ve decided to do two personal challenges this month.

  • a 31-day photo challenge (I tried in January and failed after day 10)
  • Write one personal-ish blog post per day (starting tomorrow, even though it’s still April)

To accomplish the first goal, I will be doing this:

(challenge via)

To accomplish the second goal, I’ve decided to do random memes I’ve seen around and/or came up with on my own (but probably already exist, so I think I’m more clever than I really am). I’ll explain each on the first time I do it since some may not be clear, but here’s the general list:

  • Monday Mantras
  • Gratitude Tuesday (“gratituesday”)
  • What I Wore Wednesday
  • Theatrical Thursday
  • Friday’s Fancies
  • Saturday’s Satisfaction
  • Summary Sunday

I’ve been doing the weekly check-ins every Monday, but will be moving those to my other blog since they’re mostly about grad school anyway.

Hopefully these won’t overcrowd your dashboards too much, but I feel like they’re important for me to refocus myself (and have a little fun), especially as another grad school year comes to an end and I transition to the next major life event (in this case living in another state for 7 weeks this summer). If anyone wants to join in on either challenge, let me know! I would love to have a tumblr buddy (or two, or twelve) to keep me on track and I can do the same for them.
